Put aftermatch on your home screen

There is nothing to download from a store. aftermatch is a site your phone keeps like an app: an icon, full screen, and vote reminders once your team has played.

The app won't offer it

aftermatch shows no “Install” pop-up. You put the icon there yourself, once and for all - and this is the only place where it is explained.

Why install it

  • An icon on your home screen: no address to retype on a Sunday evening.
  • The app opens full screen, without the browser bars.
  • Vote reminders become possible - and on iPhone, only on that condition.
  • It opens even when the network is poor: the bulk of the app stays on the phone.

On Android

  1. Open app.aftermatch.be in Chrome, or in Samsung Internet.
  2. Tap the three dots, top right.
  3. Choose “Install app” - depending on the version it reads “Add to Home screen”.
  4. Confirm: the icon lands on your home screen. Open it from there, not from the browser any more.

Chrome sometimes offers to install it by itself, at the bottom of the screen. Same thing: accept.

On iPhone

On iPhone this is not a nicety. iOS only lets a web app send reminders once it sits on the home screen: as long as you stay in the Safari tab, no vote reminder will reach you, even if you accepted everything.

  1. Open app.aftermatch.be in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen: the square with the arrow pointing up.
  3. Scroll down the list, then choose “Add to Home Screen”.
  4. Confirm with “Add”. From then on, open aftermatch from the icon, not from Safari.

The installed app has its own session: if it asks for your password again the first time, that's normal.

Turn on reminders

  • After your team's first match, the “Never miss a vote” card shows up on your home screen. Otherwise, any time: Profile → Vote reminders.
  • Your phone asks only once. If you say no, it won't ask again: you'll have to re-enable the permission in your browser settings.
  • The subscription belongs to this device. New phone, or browser cleared: switch them back on from your profile.
  • What you get: a reminder on match day for as long as your ballot hasn't arrived, a second one the next day, and nothing more once you have voted or the staff has closed the votes.
  • On iPhone, put the icon on your home screen first: without that, the button does nothing.

To switch them off: Profile → Vote reminders → Turn off.

Without a network

What works

  • The app opens. The essentials are kept on the phone: no blank screen because 4G dropped at the side of the pitch.
  • Your ballot is written on your phone first, then it leaves on its own as soon as the network is back or as soon as you reopen the app. One ballot per match: sent twice, it still counts once.
  • Screens you have already opened show again with their last known content.

What doesn't

  • Signing in. Sign-in is never kept offline: the very first launch needs a network.
  • A screen you have never opened. You land on a “No network” page telling you to try again - that's a fallback, not a breakdown.
  • The count. The ballot counter, closing the votes and reading them out at the clubhouse all go through the network. With no coverage a team can vote, but it cannot count.
  • Voting after the close. If the staff closed the votes while you were offline, your ballot no longer gets in: that rule holds, network or no network.

Poor reception at the clubhouse? Get on the wifi before you start the count.

I received an invitation link

  • That is your team's link. It opens a page where you create your account: first name, last name, email, a password of at least eight characters. Shirt number and nickname are optional - the nickname replaces your name in the rankings.
  • A link is valid for seven days. There is only one per team at a time, and your staff can revoke it. If it has expired, the app says so: ask for the new one.
  • The link is not personal: it is the same one for the whole team. Keep it inside the group.
  • Once your account exists, you land on your dashboard. Scroll back up this page to put the icon on your home screen.

I already have an aftermatch account

Another team, another season, or you changed club: sign-up will tell you the address is already taken. Sign in, open the link again and confirm - the team is added to your profile, you don't create a second account.

I'm in the squad, without an account

  • Your staff can add you with just your first and last name. You show up in the squad, you can receive votes and enter the rankings from the next match on. What you cannot do until your account is active is vote.
  • To activate it, take the team link and sign up like everyone else.
  • One precaution that saves a clean-up: ask your staff which address they entered, and sign up with that one. That is what links your account to your record - the votes you received, your goals and your cards stay with you. With a different address you will appear twice in the squad.
  • Your staff can also resend the invitation by email from your record, once your address is filled in.

It's not working

Tell your staff: they hold the team link, they can generate a new one and fix your address.
